For the first time in the sport’s history, a leg of Class-1 Powerboat Championship takes place at a southern hemispher country. Rio de Janeiro hosts the Class-1 Brazil Grand Prix 2010 season-opener.
The races are scheduled on 26-28 March at Marina da Glória and it happens to be the first of a 10-year agreement. It heralds the start of a long-term agreement among International Offshore Team Association – IOTA - , Aktuell Comunication Office and Event Promoter, Eike Batista, President of EBX Group. The organization counts also on the mayor city support. Class-1 Powerboat Championship Grandprix Brazil stages the 2010 season opener and is the first great international Sport event to happen in Rio de Janeiro since 2016 Olympic Games announcement.
Over a million people are expected to closely watch all Powerboat trainning and official race laps from Aterro do Flamengo. The Marina da Glória provides the public all needed structure. Vip area, shops, bars and restaurants and a disco club are part of a complex that joins sports and entertainment.
The competition itself consists on a serie of free classificatory trainning races and 2 competitive races programmed for saturday and sunday. Broadcast and journalistic coverage are garanteed by Rede Globo de Televisão and SportTV. During the week before the race, the city and the local population are envolved on several promotional activities which includes a boat parede on 21st March throughout Copacabana Bay. It aims to create a bound with public and those amazing machines that can achieve more than 270 km/h racing.
